Families can enjoy a whole host of activities at a midsummer weekend in East Tytherton.

The weekend, on the village green at East Tytherton, starts on Friday with a children’s disco from 4.30-7pm, including a bouncy castle and hot dogs.

There is a village fete on Saturday, from 2-4pm, when visitors can enjoy cream teas and community games such as sack races and a tug of war.

At 7pm there is a barn dance, which will collect money for a new village hall.

The lease on the existing hall ends in 2016 and the land owners are not renewing the lease, so villagers need to fundraise for a new one on a new plot of land.

Shelia Laurence, a village hall committee member, said: “In the day time we want the community to come together and have a lovely time and it’s the barn dance that will be for the fundraising.

“It’s a huge project, we’ve got to get a design and we have to go to the people who are offering the land, and if they think they design is acceptable they might let us have the land.

“We can’t start in earnest until we have a definite plan.”

There will be a caller and a live band at the barn dance, as well as a ploughman’s buffet. Tickets are £15 with food, £10 without food and £10 for children.

On Sunday there will be a takeaway curry lunch on the green.
