THERE were only three Star Wars films and Doctor Who had been cancelled for good when Matt Booker opened Corsham’s first comic store 20 years ago, and he’s calling on some old friends to help celebrate the anniversary.

Enthusiasts at Corsham’s Charity Sci Fi group will join him at Automattic Comics on Pickwick Road store on Saturday in full costume.

He has also organised a children’s event at Corsham Library, where Crystal Quest author David Johnson and Chippenham filmmaker Luke Palmer will show off their creative works.

Mr Booker said: “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years – it’s the longest-running comic shop in Wiltshire.

“We’ll have eight or nine people coming down from the sci-fi group with their Stormtrooper costumes, and we will have a bit of fun to celebrate 20 years of the shop, and to give something back to the town.

“There’ll also be some events running in the library for kids, as it shuts in the next month. I have run events in the library for many years, so I just wanted to say thank you to them.

“David gives talks to school kids and does creative writing classes, and Luke remade Back to the Future in Chippenham a few years ago.

“They made a film together that ties into one of his books, and they will be showing that and excerpts of some of the other films he has made.”

The Sci Fi team will be at the store from 11am to 5pm, with the library events running until noon.
