Two brothers went the extra mile to raise money for our Give Us A Chance Appeal.

Lee Coe, 32, of Linnet Lane, Melksham, wanted to do his bit for Devizes Opportunity Centre in thanks for the help received by his two young sons.

He recruited his brother Danny, 30, for a challenge cycle from the centre in Devizes to their home town of Chessington, Surrey.

Rain made the towpath along the Kennet and Avon Canal boggy and meant they had to leave their cross-country route and take to the main roads.

Eleven hours after the 7am start the men were starting to feel the pain as they arrived in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Mr Coe’s wife Terrie-Anne, 32, reported to followers on Facebook: “Spoke to Lee who said he is shattered, but not far to go now.”

Less than an hour and a half later the brothers arrived in Chessington after more than 85 miles of cycling and Mrs Coe said: “Well done fellas we are all so proud of you.”

Her emotion was echoed by staff of Devizes Opportunity Centre who said: “Well done lads. What a fabulous achievement.”

Mr Coe said: “It was a very tough day, but worth every moment of agony just to help such a fantastic centre.”

The Coe family became involved with the opportunity nursery two years ago when their elder son Scott was referred by a paediatrician as he was nearly three and still not talking.

Scott, now five, was later diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s, but thanks to the help he received at the centre he talks fluently and has settled into a special unit at Manor Primary School, Melksham.

His younger brother Kaiden, aged 22 months, who shows some similar traits but is yet to be diagnosed, started at the nursery earlier this year.

The couple also have a daughter Jasmine, three, who is developing normally.

So far the brothers have raised £479.25 on their Virgin Money Giving page to boost our appeal to help the centre raise as much money as possible towards the £50,000 it needs this year to cover running costs not covered by a grant from Wiltshire Council.
