A 36-year-old man has been jailed for launching a racially aggravated attack at a curry house in Devizes.
John-Paul Allen had been drinking when he and younger brother Scott Shuttleworth, 26, went to Jony Samad's home above the Deedar restaurant and takeaway in Sidmouth Street.
After banging on the door and being let in he set about his victim, punching and hitting him to the head with a can of hairspray.
And as he meted out the violence Allen launched a volley of abuse calling Mr Samad, who runs Deedar, a 'Paki'.
Then when Shuttleworth, who had been out of the room, returned he joined in - punching and kicking the victim who was covered in blood from a wound to his head.
The incident continued outside when Mr Samad grabbed a knife and threatened Shuttleworth and Allen with it.
Allen, who is homeless, admitted racially aggravated assault causing actual bodily harm and Shuttleworth, of Hillier Road, Devizes, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
Both also admitted theft of Mr Samad's mobile phone.
The court heard Allen had a long list of previous convictions, mainly from his time living in Manchester while Shuttleworth had fewer.
Martin Steen, for Allen, said his client accepted he was facing a jail term for what he had done.
Passing sentence Judge Douglas Field said: "The victim of this case has suffered from nasty but fortunately not serious injuries.
"The assault took place late at night and where he lived. I am prepared to accept that this was not premeditated.
"John-Paul Allen, your part in this greatly exceeds the role of your co-defendant."
He jailed Allen for 45 weeks and imposed a four-month sentence on Shuttleworth, suspended for a year, with 180 hours of unpaid work and £500 compensation.
