Hardenhuish sixth formers were victorious at the South West regional final of this year’s Engineering Education Scheme.

The Chippenham school’s team beat competition from 17 other schools at a fiercely fought assessment day at the Network Rail Maintenance Training Centre in Bristol.

Four Year 12 students worked closely on a mobile site offices project with Chippenham engineering, design and construction company M+W Group.

The scheme allowed students to take part in an introductory launch at Rolls Royce in Bristol and a two-day residential workshop at Gloucestershire College.

James Crew, Alice Bunning, Andrew Sharp and James Gaunt worked on the project for seven months under the close supervision of physics teacher Christine Murphy, who said: “I am very proud of all of the students’ efforts and feel that they richly deserved the win as they have all worked extremely hard as a team.

“The students were also awarded the opportunity to travel on a Network Rail maintenance train from London to Penzance as part of their prize, which they are unlikely to forget.”
