Devizes PHAB Club’s annual wheelchair push and walk through the town centre on Saturday has raised nearly £3,500 for their funds and other good causes.
Deputy mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders and his wife Nina saw off the participants from the Nursteed Centre on Saturday on their two-lap tour of the area.
Wheelchair users who didn’t have anyone to push them around found willing assistants among members of Devizes Round Table and there were many inventive fancy dress entries as well.
Faith Greenman won first prize in the fancy dress competition as Queen of Hearts, with Veronica Waller’s Second-Hand Rose second and Tony Cole’s Nessie third.
The best fancy hat belonged to Mary Gray, with Veronica Waller second and Faith Greenman third.
The event raised £2,488 for PHAB’s new minibus and £857 for other charities.
Organiser Michael Braund said: “The annual event also raises money for other charities, with participants donating 50 per cent of their sponsorship.”
Sponsorship is still being accepted. Contact Mr Braund on (01380) 870274 or mcbraund@btinternet.com
