Two incidents involving laser pens being shone at drivers have prompted Calne police to step up patrols and warn of their danger.

A woman was driving in the Blacklands area, past the North Wiltshire Golf Club, on Saturday, May 4, around 9pm when someone shone a green laser pen into her eyes giving her a start.

She did not stop because she was on her own, but police searched the area.

They could not find anyone and advised her to see a doctor if she began to get a headache.

Police also went to Mill Street on Wednesday, May 7, just after 9pm after a member of the public reported a group of youths with two mopeds and green laser torches.

They were shining them at passing people and cars, but when police went to the area they could not find the group.

PCSO Mark Cook said: “We will ensure patrols are stepped up in the area.

"It’s very stupid behaviour, it can cause a serious road traffic collision if the laser is shone at a driver, and it can cause an injury to anyone who has had a laser pen shone in their eyes.”
