Gardener Andrew Wain bravely bared all for a photo shoot in London raising money for horticultural charity Perennial to celebrate world naked gardening day.

Mr Wain, who is head gardener at Euridge Manor, Colerne, joined seven other gardeners from across the country to pose naked at The Roof Gardens in Kensington.

The group, called The Grubby Gardeners, is taking on a series of challenges to fundraise for Perennial, which celebrates its 175th anniversary this year.

It is the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping those who work in horticulture and their families, providing confidential advice and financial assistance.

Although it was Mr Wain’s first naked photo shoot, it led to an invitation to appear on ITV’s Loose Women with Andrea McLean, Jamelia and Jo Joyner.

The 32-year-old, who has worked at Euridge Manor for four years, said: “I’m up for most things within reason and if it’s raising money for a charity, why not? My colleagues think I’m mad anyway so it didn’t come as a surprise to them.

“It’s was a full-blown garden six storeys up in the middle of Kensington. It’s basically a nightclub and a restaurant, so while we were having these pictures taken all the restaurant staff were getting ready which was a bit weird.

“As a result of the photoshoot we were invited to appear on ITV Loose Women. We were totally naked for this, with just a small belt to hold the microphone battery.”

You don’t have to get naked to support Perennial, but gardeners are encouraged to post their own gardening selfie on Twitter with the hashtag #gardeningselfie, and donate by texting GRUB89 to 70070. To find out more visit www.perennial.org.uk
