Police are tackling a spate of break-ins in rural parts of Calne by increasing their patrols to stop burglars who are targeting tools stored in sheds and garages.

A set of tools worth £4,000, including air compression tools, welders and hand tools, were stolen from a lock-up garage in Foxham overnight between April 30 and May 1.

Tools worth £300 were also taken from a green Land Rover Defender in Compton Bassett, where a blue tool box containing items including spanners and mole grips was kept.

PCSO Mark Cook said: “We have had a number of lock-ups and garages broken into in rural parts of Calne, such as Foxham and Compton Bassett, where people have stolen various tools.

“We want to urge people to make sure they secure their properties and fit any security measures such as CCTV, and most important to report any suspicious activity.

“Due to these reports we’re increasing our rural patrols over the next few weeks.”
