Chippenham town councillors have voiced serious concerns about plans to build at least 500 more houses than expected in the town.
After the Wiltshire core strategy inspector’s assertion that Chippenham’s housing allocation fell short of what would be required, it was increased by 500 to 4,510 new homes to be built in the 20-year period ending 2026.
At a town council planning committee meeting last Thursday, councillor Nick Murry said the number was too high and the town council should object.
The committee was divided, with some councillors saying they should focus on negotiating deals for infrastructure with developers, but voted in support of his proposals. The full council will have the final vote on May 13.
