Two former Ministry of Defence aircraft hangars at Wroughton Airfield are going under the hammer at a property auction taking place in London on May 15.

Eddisons Property Auctions will be offering the vacant units as separate lots.

Hangar L7 is listed at £325,000 and occupies an 18 acre site while Hangar L6 is listed at £275,000 and spans eight acres.

The hangars, previously used to home the MoD’s equipment and vehicles, are based at the southern end of the airfield near equestrian facilities and cottages.

Simon Bailey, Eddisons' director and auctioneer, said: “The hangars have been used most recently for storage, but may well suit a variety of different uses, subject to planning.

“We sold two cottages on the same airfield in our February auction which both commanded strong interest and given the quirky nature of the hangars we also expect good interest to be shown this time.”

The auction is taking place at The Crowne Plaza and will begin at 12.30pm.

Mr Bailey said: “The hangars have a striking dome shape and were designed to deflect bombs. I’d imagine they’d interest self storage companies or distribution companies looking for extra space.

“There’s already a go-karting place up there so there’s nothing to deter businessmen who are looking to do something a little quirkier.

“The hangars offer a great opportunity and they are not particularly expensive for the amount of space on offer.”
