Devizes Town Council is to ask Wiltshire Council to consider introducing residents’ parking in Victoria Road due to concerns that commuters are blocking up the road.

A resident who has difficulty getting in and out of their driveway due to inconsiderate parking wrote to the town council for support.

Members of its planning committee said the road was congested by parking and some supported the idea of residents’ parking scheme.

A similar bid about six years ago did not gain enough support from residents.

Coun Jeff Ody said: “I feel a residents’ parking scheme would be able to reduce the pressure from non-residents and that’s the key to it.”

Coun Judy Rose said: “I go there regularly to visit a friend and it’s impossible (to park). I have seen a half a dozen cars parking there and the drivers walking off into town.”

Wiltshire Council is to carry out a review of car parking in Devizes shortly and the committee will ask for the move to be considered.
