Inspections add up to double joy for Seend school

Seend C of E Primary School has been praised for outstanding pupil behaviour and decisive leadership after it was inspected twice within a month.
Staff had just got over their Ofsted visit last month when they found out they were then due a second church inspection.
But they were delighted to receive the results after Easter, which revealed a good ranking from Ofsted, and outstanding from the church.
Headteacher Jackie Chalk said: “We had just breathed a sigh of relief after the Ofsted when we had the email saying we would get the church inspection, so we couldn’t relax into the end of term.
“It was great because what we thought were our strengths – our children’s behaviour and their attitude toward their learning – is what came through as outstanding in the report, and all the other comments are very good too.”
The Ofsted report stated: “The behaviour and safety of pupils are outstanding. They have enthusiastic attitudes to learning and show great care and respect for each other and adults. The school is led very effectively by a decisive and caring headteacher, who constantly encourages staff and pupils alike to do the best they can.”
The school was ranked good in its last inspection in 2009, before national framework changes saw standards raised.
The church inspectors, who assess the standards of religious education, worship in assemblies, the Christian ethos of the school, and its leadership and management, also found a notable improvement, increasing its grade from good to outstanding in all areas.
Mrs Chalk, who has been head at the school for four years, said: “We conduct very careful tracking of pupil progress, so three times a year we look to see what levels all the children are at, and we have revitalised the way we plan our lessons.
“I am very grateful to the staff, the school governors and the parents. They have allowed me to make the changes I wanted to make, and they have all been on-board with me.”
