A former pupil at Chippenham’s Sheldon School who moved to America was part of the winning team at the Erie County mock trial tournament.

Georgia Hulbert, who lived in Garth Close in Cepen Park North, Chippenham, until 18 months ago and was a member of Chippenham Highlights, now attends Clarence High School in New York State.

Keen to pursue a career in law, the 16-year-old was delighted to play the role of lead attorney in the tournament, in which teams argue the prosecution and defence cases.

Her team beat competition from about 40 other schools and will now take part in the New York State finals to be held in Albany.

Proud grandfather Vince Hulbert, of Quemerford in Calne, said: “Having moved to the USA in September 2012 the whole family had to face the prospect of creating a new life far away from their Chippenham roots and they have now settled well into their new life.”
