Sutton Benger WI celebrated its 40th anniversary after the main business of the annual general meeting.

A splendid cake was made by Mark Beck, iced by Chris Blake and cut by president Pauline Ratcliffe.

Committee members for this year are Dot Barker, Mary Beck, Chris Blake, Linda Davis, Maggie Gawn, Sue Martin, Jenny Quilt and Susannah Tytherleigh. Carole Watchman stepped down and was thanked for all her work. She will still run the sales table.

A busy and entertaining year was reviewed. Members had gone on visits to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Lower Moor Farm and on a weekend break to Belgium.

The institute had been awarded the Victor Ludorum shield for 2013-14 and the Scrabble team had won the county competition.

Sutton Benger will host the Dauntsey Group spring meeting on May 12 when farmer Mike Pope will talk on the making of Larkrise. A clay pigeon shoot will take place in Pig Wood at 9.45am on May 18 at a cost of £18-£20.

Birthday cards were given to Bunty Campbell, Carole Watchman, Kay Taylor, Linda Thomas, Carol Davis, Chris Blake and Mary Beck.

The next meeting will be in the village hall at 7.45pm on Wednesday, May 7, when the resolution on cutting the transplant waiting lists will be debated.
