Runners from across Wiltshire will be making tracks to Corsham on Sunday, for the town’s 33rd St George’s Day 10k run.

The race starts at Corsham Football Club at 11am.

Last year it raised more than £5,000 for charity and the organisers are predicting another successful event.

Race director Alex Fogwill said: “It’s all going really well. What’s staggering is the number of people who have applied in advance – at the moment we are on 905, and the maximum number we have attracted in the past was 830, so with people arriving on the day we are expecting to pass 1,100 runners.

“We are trying to make it a bit more interesting for spectators. Every year we try to do something extra, and this time we are having six classic cars go round the track before the race starts.”

Mr Fogwill said: “I think it’s probably one of the biggest runs in the area and this year we’re supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the Air Ambulance and Corsham Foodbank.

“We like to involve the community, so the Sea Scouts and Air Cadets will be there, and the Corsham Windband will play at two points along the route.

“There is a team of 26 solicitors from Goughs who are running for the Air Ambulance, and we have a grandfather running with his son.”

Elite racers and fun-runners will compete in the run being started by swimmer Stephanie Millward. Reigning champion Simon Nott, of Calne Running Club, is due to participate.
