Devizes Area Board has agreed to fund a crossing point on the busy Caen Hill dual carriageway.
The plan is to install dropped kerbs at either side of the dual carriageway and put a footpath on the central reservation.
Highways officers say this will make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross. The area board agreed to undertake the work later this year at a cost of £8,000 but it will talk to Melksham Area Board to see if will fund half the cost.
