A Neston allotment set up to help recovering addicts has gained a new lease of life after being rejuvenated as a project for the whole community.

The allotments on Jaggards Lane were set up in 2012 by counsellor and former alcoholic Norman King, who is now inviting all local people to come and get involved.

He said: “The charity I used to work for was taken over by another group, which was not really interested in it, and so now I’m making a go of the allotments on my own.

“I’ve let local people have allotments up there as part of a community project, as well as for people with drug and alcohol problems.

“We’re hoping to do something there so older people can sit down and enjoy the surroundings.”

Work on the site has always been carried out by volunteers, and with the spring planting season fast approaching Mr King is looking for more people to help out.
