Joan Flint had a birthday to remember as she took a horse-drawn carriage ride.

Mrs Flint, who turned 90 on Monday, was given the treat by her family.

Wessex Carriage Driving in Great Cheverell took her and other members of her family from West Lavington to her daughter Pam Gaiger’s house in Little Cheverell on Sunday.

The journey did not get off to a great start as they sheltered from hailstones but the storm stopped after 100 yards. The carriage, led by horses Gwillim and Blush, took about 15 minutes to get to its destination.

Mrs Flint has been living in Dauntsey House Care Home in West Lavington since the start of the year but had lived independently in the village before that.

At her daughter’s house at Little Cheverell there was a party with 35 members of her family.

Mrs Flint has three daughters, nine grandchildren and 16 great grand children.

She said: “It was fantastic and an absolutely marvellous way to spend my birthday.”
