Cricketers bowled shoppers over on Saturday when they offered to pack bags to raise money for the Gazette’s Give Us A Chance Appeal for Devizes Opportunity Centre.

About 20 junior members of Potterne Cricket Club with senior members including chairman Fred Kerley and opportunity centre staff made sure they kept the frozen produce in the same bags and tried not to squash eggs with tins at Morrisons in Devizes on Saturday.

Cricket club vice-chairman Graham Gaiger, who is also chairman of Devizes Opportunity Centre, brought the two groups together to raise funds for the two causes close to his heart.

A total of £500 will go to our appeal with the remainder of about £400 going to cricket club funds.

Mr Gaiger said: “This is the third time the cricket club has done bag packing and it has raised nearly £1,500 for the centre in total.

“As Chairman of Devizes Opportunity Centre I am delighted with the way the day went and very grateful for all those who made the effort to help such a wonderful cause and would like to thank all those who did so.”
