THE chairmanship of The Trust for Devizes will rotate among committee members until a permanent chairman is appointed.

Ted East stood down as chairman after four years at the Trust’s annual general meeting last Thursday but no nominations were made to succeed him.

The following committee members were re-elected: Tony Duck as honorary secretary, Inez Skinner as honorary treasurer and trustees John Baumber, David Dawson, Dr James Flood, John Girvan, Philippa Morgan and Tony Sedgwick. Sarah Cowley stood down and Peter Alfrey was elected to the committee.

The trust campaigns to protect the town’s heritage.

Mr East was presented with a gift from the trustees and he said: “It has given me great pleasure to serve on the committee for the past seven years and the last four years as chairman.

“The trust, with the support of the committee and its members, has been a very effective organisation and has given me a great deal of pleasure to be part of that.”

The trust’s accounts for 2013 showed it received £2,557 in income and spent £5,604, which was double the amount spent in 2012.

Items of spending included a donation of £1,000 for Drews Pond Orchard and £773 on Pillbox restoration.

The trust’s accounts have a balance of just under £7,500.
