Funds continue to flood in for our Give Us A Chance appeal with cash coming from a parish council, a WI group and a quiz night, as well as a number of other cash donations.

Pewsey Parish Council has presented Devizes Opportunity Centre with £400 after one of the councillors read our story about Rylee Giddings from the village.

He was moved by the story of the little girl who, despite being 20 months old, is unable to sit up unaided.
She and her family are being helped by the centre.

Centre manager Betty Newman said: “He put our case to the council and they have been able to make this grant to us, which is absolutely wonderful.”

A quiz organised by the centre’s own committee at St Joseph’s Primary School, Devizes, on Friday evening brought in another £833.
Mrs Newman said: “I was astonished it raised so much. It was a lovely evening with a great atmosphere.”

Devizes Evening WI has raised £70 after committee member Maureen Miles saw our stories about the centre. She set up a stall selling cards for all occasions at a meeting and they sold out.

Mrs Miles said: “I have lived in Devizes for about ten years but I had no idea this centre was here or what it did. It is a cause close to my heart as my own daughter is handicapped. She is 50 now but when she was growing up there was nothing like this around.”

She was given a tour of the centre by Mrs Newman and was impressed with what she saw.

She said: “It is a wonderful place and I hope to be able to hold more card sales in the future to raise funds.”

Her son-in-law, Stephen Nobes, is an agent for a card company and he donated the ones she sold.

Other cash donations have come to the centre this week from readers who have filled in our form or gone to the Virgin Giving page.
