Devizes mayor Pete Smith has postponed his talent contest due to take place on Saturday.
About half a dozen people had entered the event called Mayor’s Got Talent, but more had indicated they would like to take part, but were unable to do so due to other commitments.
The event was to raise money for the mayor’s charities but was only announced just over two weeks ago. Carole Berry, direct services manager at Devizes Town Council, acknowledged that it was a tight timescale.
She said: “The contest on Saturday night clashed with other events. People said they would have entered but had other things to go to. The acts that we did have were very varied, which is nice, but we need to have plenty of local participation.”
She said the event would be rescheduled for later in the year.
