Golfers are in for the chance to scoop a signed driver from PGA Tour golfer Justin Rose as well as playing alongside a European Tour professional at a charity golf day near Malmesbury on March 21.

Paul Sparrowhawk has a few team spaces available for the event.

The golf day has been organised in support of his wife Claire’s fundraising venture to pay for her place on a seven-day charity trek through the Grand Canyon in the autumn in aid of three children’s charities.

Those attending on the day will get to play alongside local European Tour professional Charlotte Ellis, as well as have the chance of winning a new Jaguar car for the weekend.

Mrs Sparrowhawk, a 33-year-old mother-of-two who is teaching assistant at Minety Primary School, hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the Make a Wish Foundation, Ray of Sunshine and Starlight through the various fundraising ventures.

“My wife needs to raise about £3,850 to go,” said Mr Sparrowhawk, of Upper Minety.

“The golf day was my idea because I like playing golf and I am doing it to support Claire as much as anything else.”

The 18-hole golf tournament will take place at South Cerney on March 21, with the first team teeing off at 8am.

There is still space for nine teams of four to compete. Entry costs £100 per team for 18 holes.

Sponsorship for the holes are also needed from local businesses, with Jaguar cars having stepped forward to sponsor the first hole.

To take part email paul.sparrowhawkltd@yahoo.co.uk Mrs Sparrowhawk will live in basic condition sleeping in a two-man tent alongside scorpions during the seven-day trek.

“I admire that Claire is going; I think she is very brave,” added Mr Sparrowhawk.

“It’s going to be quite intense and it’s no holiday.

“Claire is looking forwards to it but she is nervous as well.

“She has done a lot of fundraising every year and each year she tries to do a bit more but I’m not sure how she will beat this.”
