Wiltshire councillor Laura Mayes has doubled her fundraising target for the Gazette’s appeal for Devizes Opportunity Centre.
Coun Mayes, of Roundway, took part in the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday and had set herself a target of £500 but she has beaten that and is now aiming to raise £1,000.
Coun Mayes has run the Bath Half Marathon several times but much of last year was spent recovering from treatment for breast cancer so she was pleased to finish it.
She and her husband, James, both ran it on Sunday, with James finishing it in 1hr 54 mins while Coun Mayes crossed the line in 2hrs 14 mins.
Coun Mayes, who is the Cabinet member for children’s services at Wiltshire Council, said: “It went very slowly and my time was considerably slower than my time two years ago but I was happy to get round.
"It’s a great event, extremely well run and the crowd really do keep you going.
"There are so many people running for so many different charities, it’s quite humbling and emotional. I’m going to do it again next year.”
