Owl boxes have been put up around Sherston this week to attract the nocturnal creature in preparation for the village’s Wild Sherston event on May 16 and 18.
Organisers and volunteers have collaborated in the last couple of weeks to set up bird and owl boxes to provide more nesting ground for the birds.
It is part of the wider Wild Sherston project, which has been organised to help boost people’s awareness of the abundance of wildlife living practically on their doorstep.
Spokeswoman Jo Egerton said: “We are still hoping to find somewhere in Sherston like an open barn that we can try and encourage some owls to nest in. It’s difficult to find the right barn that’s quite quiet.
“Wild Sherston has been borne from a few people in the village who are really into nature.”
Wild Sherston will involve a series of talks, walks, workshops, nature trails, craft stalls and activities aimed at people of all ages, as well as presentations from the likes of bee expert Paul Anderson, Wiltshire Butterfly Conservation and BBC broadcaster Kelvin Boot.
