C'mon, show me what you've Got, says Devizes Mayor
If you have a talent for performing then Devizes Mayor Pete Smith wants to hear from you. Coun Smith is holding a show called Mayor’s Got Talent, on the lines of Britain’s Got Talent, and is encouraging talented and unknown performers to enter.
The event is raising money for his charities - Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Canon’s House and Wiltshire Young Carers.
Coun Smith said: “We have got a lot of talent in Devizes that people don’t really see. It will be nice for people who are not recognised to be seen. The talent contest is for anybody and it will be a laugh.
"It’s aimed at bringing all the community together and it will raise money for my charities.
“I love Britain’s Got Talent, it’s one of my favourite programmes. When Susan Boyle appeared on it and started singing for the first time it was a wonderful experience.”
Coun Smith himself is used to entertaining others as a member of the Devizes based all male majorettes group, The Major Wrecks.
He has been involved with it for 25 years and it raises money for the Contact a Family charity, which helps families of children with disabilities.
Coun Smith will be one of the judges on the panel of three for the contest.
It is open to all amateur performers aged 11 and over who live in the Devizes area. No professionals and no choirs/groups of more than six performers are allowed to enter.
For an entry form and the rules contact the town hall on (01380) 722160 or email email@example.com
The closing date is March 10 and Phil Dawson of Fantasy Radio will be assisting with the first cut of entries to ensure there is a good mix of acts.
Auditions will be held at the town hall or entrants may submit a video clip of their act.
A live performance of the acts will be on Saturday March 15 at the town hall at 7.30pm and tickets for this are £5 each, available from the town hall and Devizes Books.
Proceeds from the bar and a raffle on the night will go to the Mayor’s charities.
