A 78-year-old Chippenham woman was knocked unconscious after tripping over a paving stone in Chippenham town centre.

She was badly bruised and shocked after the incident outside Superdrug on High Street at 2.40pm on Sunday.

Town councillors are fuming after highlighting the need for paving to be fixed.

Councillor Bill Douglas said: “She went down on her face and there was blood running over the pavement.

“I went to look on Thursday evening and I stood on the flagstone and it rocked backwards and forwards.

“After Chippenham Town Council complaints last week, Wiltshire Council started work fixing the paving stones in the town on Monday, but it was too late.”
