Chippenham is set to get two new eateries in the next couple of months.

Caffe Mi in the Market Place is expanding into the empty Detour menswear shop next door and will open a Spanish tapas bar, Los Amigos, at the end of March.

Late the following month, new cafe bar Rivo Lounge, part of the West Country Loungers chain, hopes to open in the two units on The Bridge where Global Furniture is now.

Matt Lewis and partner Federieca Marconi opened Caffe Mi last January about eight months after Coffee Central left. They used to run Gusto in Swindon, where they had tapas nights.

Mr Lewis said: “We’ve been doing some buiding work and we are going to be opening around March 21 which is the first birthday of our baby Oliver.

“If it proves successful and we need more space we can knock through the wall.”

The Loungers outlets also serve tapas, as well as pub food, all day breakfasts and cocktails, with extensive gluten free and vegan menus.

This week it placed adverts on caterer.com for a general manager, assistant manager, head chef and sous chef. It has applied for a licence to serve alcohol from 10am seven days a week, until 11pm Sunday to Wendesday and until midnight Thursday to Saturday.

Wiltshire Council said it had not received any representations since consultation began three weeks ago. If none are received by February 27 the licence would be granted.

It will be discussed by Chippenham town council planners this evening.
