Box record label Stranger Records has been awarded £6,500 of funding via the Music Export Growth Scheme to promote one of their signed bands.

The scheme has been established by UK Trade & Investment and BPI to help small and mid-sized independent music companies promote their artists overseas as part of wider Government efforts to get another 100,000 businesses exporting.

The funding will help Stranger Records support the marketing and a tour of Indie band Filthy Boy in France and Germany.

Cameron Jenkins, of Stranger Records, said: “It is of huge benefit to us as an expanding independent label and also a massive boost for the four highly talented musicians of Filthy Boy.

“They will be able to build on their growing popularity throughout Europe and we will be able to support the MEGS campaign.”

The 15 acts receiving the grants span the genres of rock/alternative, pop, dance/electronic, urban, classical, jazz and world music and come from London, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham and Monmouth.

The successful UK-signed acts were selected from a pool of 118 applications, received in the first round of the programme, by a panel of music industry experts.

MEGS board chairman John Kennedy said: “It is now important that the successful applicants maximise the return from the funding.”
