Engineer Adam Cruse has been selected from high-calibre applicants across the southwest to be awarded a technician scholarship.

Mrs Cruse, 20, of Redland, Chippenham, is one of just four promising future technicians to be given the Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust award, which looks for those with an aptitude for teamwork, leadership skills and ambition.

Mr Cruse, who is an apprentice engineer for Atkins Global and a part-time student at City of Bristol College, said: “Some of my earliest memories are of spending days drawing detailed road maps and inner city plans of large sheets of paper.

“I believe this award will broaden my opportunities to further my study in civil engineering.”

The other successful entrants were from Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay. All excelled in their interviews and displayed a knowledge of the Institution and a keenness to promote civil engineering to others.

Regional director Trish Johnson, who was on the judging panel for the awards, said: “QUEST Scholarships are awarded to those achieving and striving for the highest standards.

“All four scholars have shown a great enthusiasm for engineering and using the scholarship to aid them in their studies.”
