Renowned performance poets Marcus Moore and Sarah-Jayne Arbury led workshops at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham.
Two days of year 7 workshops culminated in a showpiece finals evening attended by more than 150 parents and guests.
Kieran Hodge and Daniel Shea were given gift vouchers for their winning poem, A Typical Classroom, which combined a unique description of class life with dramatic acting.
Matt Hall, English curriculum leader at Hardenhuish, said: “We are keen to challenge the stereotype that poetry is boring and staid.
“The workshops and the finals evening were great fun and the pupils have really shone on stage, with a very high standard of verse.”
