Lockstone has been a familiar name in Malmesbury since it was first started up as a grocery store in 1808 by Edward Heath Lockstone but it has been trading with a new look more recently.

His great grandson, David Rogers, who grew up in Malmesbury, now runs Lockstones as an estate agents.

The grocery store operated until the late 1960s when it closed in competition with supermarkets.

Four years ago the familiar name returned to the town after Mr Rogers decided to open his estate agents following in his family’s footsteps.

“We have had people drop in lots of old ration books and things,” Mr Rogers, 33, of Oxford Street, said.

“My grandfather (Douglas) worked in the shop and it was in his generation where it all stopped, so my mum was quite young when it closed, but she did work on the farms as well.

“It’s been brilliant opening in Malmesbury under Lockstones; we’ve loved being back.

“I grew up here and went to the schools, so just coming home and being able to offer a service to people who I know is great.”
