Volunteers are being recruited at Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley to work as hosts for the new community lodges that are being built.
The hospice was awarded a £462,497 grant from the Department of Health to contribute towards the two lodges, which will open in April, but it needs Community Lodge Hosts to welcome guests, look after their personal needs and provide companionship in home-from-home surroundings.
The single storey lodges will be staffed by Dorothy House Hospice at Home carers, but they will need the support of a whole new team of volunteers to work alongside them to help with the day-to-day needs of guests, their families and visitors.
Shifts are flexible with a minimum commitment of just one six and a half hours shift once a fortnight. Full training will be given, but sensitivity and good communication skills are essential.
The role is suited to someone looking to return to work in the caring profession or considering a career in nursing.
Recruiting for volunteer Community Lodge Hosts is now under way. To find out more visit the Dorothy House Hospice Care website www.dorothyhouse.co.uk/volunteering or email the team volunteer@dorothyhouse-hospice.org.uk or call 01225 721485
