A drug user awaiting a hip replacement has been fined for having cannabis he says he needs to take away the pain.

Leon Bull had 8oz of the drug destroyed by police after they raided his home in Park Lane, Chippenham, on November 21 last year and found two plastic containers full in the bathroom.

He had paid £800 for the cannabis just three days earlier.

Bull, 37, pleaded guilty to possession of class-B drugs when he appeared before Chippenham magistrates on Thursday.

Defence solicitor Mark Glendenning said his client used cannabis for pain relief.

Bull had already had one hip replacement and was on a waiting list to have another one.

He was ordered to pay the court £200.
