Members of property consultancy Carter Jonas will soon be heading north to take part in what is being billed as Yorkshire’s second most highly anticipated event of the summer, the Yorkshire Pedalthon.

The glare of the world’s sporting media will turn to Yorkshire for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France cycling race in July but ahead of that Philip Marshall, commercial partner and head of the Carter Jonas Bath office, will be leading a team of cycling enthusiasts as the firm joins up with colleagues and clients to take part in the Carter Jonas Pedalthon.

The event is being organised by Bath-based sporting event organiser Breathingspace, which includes Bike Bath and Bike Oxford in its portfolio.

Cycling enthusiasts from around the country are signing up to take part in Yorkshire’s own version of the famous French event which will take place on May 22.

Riders will have the choice to complete either the 80 mile Yorkshire Challenge or the 40 mile Yorkshire Scenic route.

Both circular routes will start and finish at Ripley Castle in North Yorkshire, with the the Yorkshire Challenge riders heading into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales including the steep climb out of Wharfedale to the top of Kidstones Pass, a climb also featuring on the Tour opening day.

Having completed the climb, riders will descend in to spectacular Wensleydale and on to Masham where they will join the Scenic route riders before returning to Ripley Castle for a Yorkshire hog roast.

The event will raise funds for Bristol based charity Sustrans and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Philip Marshall said: “I’m looking forward to leading a team to Yorkshire and with my colleague Colin Scragg we’ll be encouraging as many clients as we can to join us and support the fundraising, and to enjoy stunning scenery and Yorkshire hospitality.

“It will be a unique experience to cycle on part of the Tour de France route; how easy it will be remains to be seen.”
