FIRE crews are in attendance at the Five Bells Pub in Royal Wootton Bassett to deal with a chimney blaze.
Although the fire is under control, several appliances and an aerial unit have been sent as a precaution because the property has a thatched roof. The pub was open at the time but no-one has been hurt.
Wood Street has been closed while the emergency services deal with the incident and is likely to remain off limits until 5pm.
Town councillor Chris Wannell happened by the incident and said he hoped it had not done any serious damage.
He said: “The Five Bells is one of the most popular pubs in town and we cannot afford to lose another one so soon after the Cross Keys. I think it’s in the chimney but of course the pub has a thatched roof so you wouldn’t want that to catch light.”
