Concern about the quality of road repairs, including potholes, carried out by Wiltshire Council has been raised.

At a meeting of Devizes Town Council’s planning committee, Coun Roger Giraud-Saunders said: “There was a pothole at the end of London Road by the Estcourt Rooms and, after being patched, the next day or the day after the repair was already cracked or defective.

“We need to make sure Devizes and Wiltshire is getting value for money.

"Putting a patch in a pothole with high-volume traffic travelling over it and having to repair it a few weeks later doesn’t make much sense to me.”

Coun John Parker said a pothole on the road to Salisbury by Upavon was the size of a “crater” and said the A342 Nursteed Road on the way to Pewsey was partially resurfaced last year and this was already breaking up.

The councillors were pleased to hear that Wiltshire Council is putting extra effort into filling in potholes in the county after the recent heavy rainfall. Wiltshire Council is spending an extra £250,000 to repair potholes.

Town councillors agreed to write to Wiltshire Council expressing their concerns on the quality of repairs carried out and requesting a schedule of work in the pipeline so they can monitor it.
