Devizes MP Claire Perry is calling for action after meeting communities across the constituency affected by flooding.

At a well-attended flood group meeting in Great Bedwyn last Saturday, Mrs Perry heard about the dreadful problems affecting the Bedwyns.

She has offered help with chasing DEFRA flood protection grants, sorting out the pumping and capacity issues in Little Bedwyn and The Knapp with Thames Water.

Work also needs to be carried out with Network Rail on culverts and pipes, and improving roadside and drain maintenance and more flood protection measures in homes.

In Enford, residents told Mrs Perry that water runoff from land behind the village, the emergence of springs with enough force to lift the road surface and under-capacity drains were part of the problem.

She has contacted the Ministry of Defence and Wiltshire Council’s flood engineers to ask for more information and to see an action plan.

Mrs Perry said: “Many local communities have been affected by flooding in the last few weeks and I am heartened to see communities working together to defend at risk properties, and also to hear that the emergency services and Wiltshire Council have been very proactive.

"I am working with all the organisations that can help protect local homes and villages to ensure that flood defences are improved and that the response to flooding is as good as it can be.”
