Grant paves way for Malmesbury treasure exhibition
Historical treasures are to go on display at the Athelstan Museum, Malmesbury, after it was awarded a £10,000 grant.
The artefacts include two pristine medieval gold coins, valued at £1,000 each, which were discovered by Daniel’s Well and in Garsdon, as well as coins dating from Roman times.
Maria Marsh, the museum’s collection and exhibits co-ordinator, said: “A lot of work went into the grant proposal. We had these objects donated to the museum over the last couple of years so we wanted to get them on display and we haven’t been able to so far.”
The £10,000 grant from the Art Fund through its Treasure Plus Scheme will be used to commission new displays and cases for the treasure. For more details on the museum’s exhibits visit www.athelstanmuseum.org.uk
