Tenants needed for historic Lacock inn

The National Trust is looking for new tenants to take over a historic Lacock restaurant and hotel.

The 15th century At the Sign of the Angel has been put on the market after being run by National Trust tenants for 60 years.

Associate director Michael Easton said: “The building is seen as an institution for many of its previous guests, and we are already speaking with a number of interested parties.

“The property is centrally-located on Church Street within this picture perfect village, which is predominately owned and looked after by the National Trust.

“The Angel had been run as a traditional restaurant with rooms and the parts of the building are believed to date from the 15th Century.

“Whilst there is character in abundance, it is also worth noting that the letting bedrooms  all have modern, and tasteful, en suite facilities.

“The trade inventory, which was not in the ownership of the National Trust, has been removed so a new tenant will need to reinvigorate and refurnish the customer and trades areas.

“The building provides for three ground floor dining rooms with space for circa 60 covers in addition to a rear trade garden which can accommodate a similar number on sunnier days.

“The letting rooms are at ground and first floor level and whilst there is no private accommodation as such, it could easily be provided at the loss of one of the six letting rooms and incorporating the use of the current resident lounge to make a one bedroom flat.

“Given the time of year we are keen to find the right operator to run the business and be in a position to have completed the lease and moved in to trade in good time for Easter.

“We are keen to find tenants who have an understanding of Lacock, are sympathetic to a business best suited to the area and someone who either has experience or great enthusiasm for such a historic venue.”

Details are available through Jones Lang LaSalle on 01392 423696 or via their website www.jllhotels.com.

The agents are asking for interested parties to provide CVs and business plans as part of the tenant search, for what will be a new 12-year term.
