Primary school pupils in Wiltshire are exceeding expected levels for reading, writing and maths, according to figures published this week.
The Department for Education’s performance tables show 76 per cent of Wiltshire primary school children reached the expected level four in reading, writing and maths. This is three per cent up from Wiltshire’s 2012 figures and one per cent above this year’s national figure of 75 per cent.
Top of the league table in Wiltshire is Sherston C of E Primary School. Other top performers were All Cannings, Collingbourne and Hullavington.
All 11-year-olds sit Standard Assessment Tests and teachers assess what level pupils have attained in the summer of their final year at primary school.
In Wiltshire, 49 per cent of pupils attain level five in reading, a third of pupils achieve level five in writing and 40 per cent gain level five in maths.
