Council leader signs own quit call petition

Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott has twice signed a petition calling for her own resignation.

The online petition, begun by campaigner Paul Gaunt, is calling for her to quit over the controversial rise in councillors’ allowances last month.

But Coun Scott has questioned the validity of the petition, which has more than 2,000 signatures.

She said: “I was surprised to get an email thanking me for signing and asking if I’d like to take part in a protest.

“It is obviously someone who has signed with my name and email but it shows how robust it is.”

Mr Gaunt, of Broughton Gifford, said: “If Jane Scott wants to write to me I would be happy to remove her from the petition. This is a widely used system but if someone has added Jane as a joke or something like that I would be happy to remove her and this applies to anyone who may have had a change of mind and wants to be removed from the petition.”

Meanwhile independent councillor Jeff Osborn was forced this week into a U-turn after requesting an extraordinary meeting of the council to debate the allowances again.

The meeting was scheduled for Christmas Eve but Coun Osborn withdrew his request, saying he didn’t want to make council staff work that day.

Coun Scott said he hadn’t received the necessary five emails of support from fellow councillors anyway.

The matter will now be discussed at February’s full council meeting – if Coun Osborn can get ten councillors to support the motion.

Coun Scott said: “We had six officers working on arranging the meeting. That will have wasted money.”

Maybe some people may not have had the clearest of heads, and have signed this petition after celebrating the huge increase in their expenses

Six officers to arrange a Council meeting? Seems a little excessive!

Ms Scott and Co have NO problem "organising meetings" for pay rises, letting valuable Staff go and reductions in our Services..

I wonder who the "6 officers" were that she "chose" before the Meeting was postponed ??!!......

It is such a shame that someone "signed for ms scott" but regardless of that, the Petition IS a solid, genuine and... much justified Right of us all.....

If Ms Scott has ANY decency and sense of REAL Moral Duty and Conscience, she must surely realise that her personal aspirations are NO longer acceptable ?..

NO REAL money "was wasted" re the Christmas Eve meeting...

The REAL MONEY wasted in our County has and continues to be wasted BY Ms Scott and her Politically obsessed Conservative Cabinet....

Bin Men of Wiltshire...we salute and thank you for your much valued work in collections..

Kindest thoughts and sincerest Regards also go out to the REAL Staff "let go"...

Well done Paul Gaunt for speaking out and please may the Petition continue to grow to prove that the People of Wiltshire DO MATTER...

Christmas Day again and...across Wiltshire along with the wrapping paper and plans for the day, for many Residents and Staff of Wilts Council comes the uncertainty of what 2014 will bring..

I send warmest regards to anyone who might be reading and hope and Pray that Ms Scott and her Conservative Team will take much needed and long overdue time to reflect on decisions they have made that did NOT include the People that DO matter in Wiltshire ??....

The storms this week have brought much devastion and an extra special thanks go out to the REAL workers from the Council who no doubt are still drying their wellies out ...thank you all..

John Thomson's photo accompanied an article about the storms but I doubt very much that he partook in any clean up of the County...

With respect, John and Jane, the People of Wiltshire and front line Staff are NO longer prepared to be "swept under your Political carpet"..

Life is truly precious and each day counts more to us than it will ever do to you..

Take time to remember that as you sit down and enjoy the fruits of your self imposed Pay Rise, many People in Wiltshire ARE without the luxuries that you gave selfishly gave yourselves ?..

Bin Men, I salute you, lost Staff, too and.....for the Staff left that do the REAL work, I Pray that you stay strong....the People of Wiltshire need you more than ever....

Please everyone....Sign the 38 degrees Petition and let's put the "Wonderful back in Wiltshire" ??
