A NIGHT of festive music is being held in Marlborough to kick-start fundraising for Tom Pound’s climb of Kilimanjaro in September.

The 27-year-old father-of-two, who lives in the High Street, is raising money for the British Heart Foundation and is bringing together Jimmy Moore, Charlie-Anne Bradfield and Cheri Pattie to help him reach his £3,800 target.

He said: “I like the idea that the money raised stays in Britain. My fianceé’s grandad had a heart attack which was unexpected because he’s quite young.”

Mr Pound, who is studying music technology at the London College of Music, and who moved to the town three years ago, will set out on the 19,374ft climb on September 4, 2014, and will spend 10 days in Tanzania.

He said: “I’m quite a spontaneous person so this isn’t out of character for me. I got up one morning and within half an hour I’d signed up and paid to do the climb.

“To be honest I thought it would be pretty easy. I thought it was just a big hill but now, looking at it, I think it’s going to be quite difficult.

“I’m not worried about the climb but I’m worried about the altitude sickness. I’m trying to rope some friends into doing it with me.”

The music night will take place at Marlborough Bowls Club on December 22 from 7pm, with a suggested donation of £5 on the door.

He said: “I’m hoping the artists will play some of their own songs as well as some Christmas covers. It will be rough acoustic Christmas songs.

“Friends and family are helping out and there will be mulled wine and mince pies. It should be a good night with everyone coming together.”
