Dauntsey’s pupils stage Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods

Pupils have staged Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical Into the Woods, a show in which several classical fairy tale characters learn the hard way that ‘happily ever after’ is not always so happy after all.
Over five nights, an energetic and dedicated cast of 25 pupils of Dauntsey’s School, West Lavington, presented a stylish interpretation of this musical, supported by a fine orchestra and back-stage crew.
It was presented in the round, seats being arranged on all four sides of the stage, and the audience was drawn into the action, almost becoming part of the performance.
Rikki Jackson, head of drama, said: “When it comes to drama, Dauntsey’s is unique, not only for the range and quality of our performing arts but also because we keep standards so high while offering opportunities for all our pupils, not only those with the talent and ambition to pursue a career in this most competitive of fields.
"Our production of Into the Woods was one of the highlights of the year and staging the show ‘in the round’ was a challenge but proved to be very effective and was a unique experience for our pupils.”
