Fans of TV chef Tom Kerridge will get a chance to taste some of his pub grub first-hand later this month when he visits Walter Rose and Son in Devizes to host a cookery session.

The butcher supplies the majority of the meat Tom cooks in his Michelin starred Hand and Flowers pub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire and shots of him popping into the Devizes shop were a regular feature of the recent TV show.

At noon next  Saturday, December 14, he and a team of Hand and Flowers chefs will be showing what can be produced with the high quality meat the firm supplies.

He will also be offering visitors to the Sidmouth Street shop the chance to buy a signed copy of his book which features the recipes from the series.

Walter Rose and Son owner Steve Cook is offering people a chance to enter a draw with a £100 hamper as first prize. Everybody buying a book on the day also gets a discount voucher which can be used to buy some of the cuts used in Tom’s recipes.

“Its great that Tom is taking the trouble to come here and to bring his chef’s with him – he did a fantastic job of raising awareness of the importance of quality and traceability – which is what traditional local butchers offer over and above the supermarkets.

“We’re really proud of the fact that Tom has chosen us to supply his meat - and he likes the fact that we can deliver just what he wants and tell him exactly where it came from – we can even introduce him to the farmer who produced it,” he said.

He and his team, who have just won a national award as the best Butcher’s Shop in the South of England, have been working hard to try and reconnect people with where their food comes from and say that Tom’s programme has helped illustrate the importance of good husbandry and skilful butchery in delivering succulent and tasty meals.

“Tom’s programme showed that everybody can produce fabulous food using simple, quality, ingredients that actually represent really good value for money. He has helped demonstrate that, by shopping locally, you get better tasting, fresher food that is better for you and your family it also means you get a guarantee of the finest quality and complete traceability,” said Mr Cook.

Tom will be at Walter Rose and Son’s Sidmouth Street shop on Saturday 14 December from 12.00 Midday.
