Sixth form students at St John’s Marlborough are gearing up to stage Cinderella - their first pantomime.

This production will raise funds for the charity Sense, helping people who are deaf and blind or have associated disabilities.

The classic fairytale of Cinderella, which follows the successful production of Mort last year, will be directed and produced by St John’s International Baccalaureate students.

It will be performed in the Theatre on the Hill at St John’s Marlborough on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 17 and 18, at 7pm.

This panto tells the story of the orphan Cinderella, tormented by her ugly step-sisters, searching for her one true love. With a bit of help from her friends: Buttons, the Fairy Godmother and a little furry friend, she eventually finds her happy ending.

Student Cherry Mawby said that it would be a wonderful pre-Christmas show for all the family.

"It's a definite must for families and friends alike – a brilliant show to get you in to the Christmas spirit, with plenty of laughs in between, ” she said.

The idea to produce this pantomime was proposed by two Year 13 IB students, Sarah Crookall and Polly McNamara, and will be brought to life entirely by sixth form students at St John’s, some of whom are performing, some taking backstage roles and others responsible for ticket sales and marketing.

International Baccalaureate students are required to complete a minimum of 150 hours non-academic CAS (creativity, action and service) activities in order to receive their diploma and for the St John’s IB students involved in the production Cinderella will become part of their final qualification when they leave St John’s next summer.

Tickets are on sale at £6 for adults, and £4 for concessions.

Bookings can be made at St John’s reception and student services, from The Theatre on the Hill pages of the St John’s website www.stjohns.wilts.sch.uk, or by emailing panto@stjohns.wilts.sch.uk
