Chippenham's MP Duncan Hames inspired some budding politicians in a visit to Charter Primary School.

Mr Hames visited the children, who represent their school in the Chippenham Schools Parliament, as part of National Parliament Week.

They were full of questions as he hosted a discussion about what an MP does and how parliament works.

Teachers said it was exciting for them to meet Mr Hames in person and find out first hand how an MP splits his time between Parliament in London and his constituency in Wiltshire.

Headteacher Sarah Flack said: “Mr Hames’ enthusiasm inspired some budding MPs.

“It was a great opportunity for our children to learn about the work and life of a serving MP. This included hearing about surgeries and conferences which they had not previously known about.”
