Hundreds of schoolchildren waving flags welcomed Prince Charles to Sherston today.

The prince officially opened the Sherston Old School Project, a grade two listed building which used to be the old school building.

It stood empty from 2005 until villagers formed a community interest group in 2010 and raised the money to renovate the building.

The Old School now houses a post office and several businesses, including Shear Class hairdressers, whichs was able to open thanks to a £50,000 grant from the Prince's Countryside Trust.

Manageress Martina Wood said: "We started over the road in a little salon which was probably less than half the size of this.

"We've got do much space and light and it's brilliant being next to the post office because they are so busy.

"We were slightly nervous beforehand but he was really nice and quite easy to talk to.

"It's nice that he came and had a look round. It's just a nice thing to talk about with clients and to say that he opened it here for us."
