Man charged with kidnap from Chiseldon petrol station
5:00pm Monday 28th October 2013 in News
A man who is accused of kidnapping a 33-year-old from a petrol station in Chiseldon has been released on bail by a judge.
Amritpar Chahal is also charged with robbery in relation to the alleged incident on October 2.
It is alleged the 25-year-old and an accomplice kidnapped Ravi Agarwal from the petrol station on the A345 at Chiseldon shortly after 1pm.
It is said they drove him against his will to Marlborough where he was beaten and robbed before being dumped at a remote farm in Ogbourne St George. No charges were formally put to Chahal, of Porthcawl, south Wales, and he did not enter any pleas.
He is said to have robbed Mr Agarwal of money, his wallet, a mobile phone and jewellery.
Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to January 3 and released him on conditional bail.
He must live at an address in Hounslow, London, observe a night time curfew, stay out of Wiltshire, report to the police three times a week and put up a £5,000 surety.
The judge also ordered he surrender his passport but was told it was currently being held by the Home Office in support of his wife's application for British citizenship.
